Clearly over 21 months the docking station has had at least 500 full cycles. Having read about how the TF101's Li-on cells respond to charging, my normal habit of charging overnight, everynight, was probably more detrimental to the docking station's battery than the tablet's, in that the docking station's battery would be exhausted every day, whereas the tablet rarely fell below 50-60% before being recharged. Increased battery life is not my main concern per se. I don't know if that helps at all, but in any case a warm welcome to you. I know that I wouldn't spend £100 on a device that is (in today's technology terms) now getting quite long in the tooth. We have a dedicated MeMo section, so you could perhaps consider that. Asus have recently released a new MeMo Tab in the UK - excellent spec & value at only £249. I think you might get around £100 for your tf101 second hand, so that would give you quite a start towards something new. You might be better off looking at a second hand dock from EBay? But to be honest, as your tf101 is the age it is, you might want to consider selling it and getting an upgrade, perhaps.Īsus specify 500 full charging cycles for their batteries, so in around 21 months you might not be far off from that even with your tablet. Is it the additional battery life you a looking for? (From the dock) Because IMO the Asus repair is likely to cost you as much as the dock was originally - around £100 by the time they include shipping charges The "physical bulge" concerns me and makes me think that your battery has "blown" which might mean leakage into the electronics? The GUIDE to change the dock battery can be found in post #7 Thought about buying new docking station but clearly the TF101 is no longer stocked anyone had any experience/success of using newer model docking stations on TF101 tablet? Has anyone in the UK used ASUS out-of-warranty repair for similar problem, and what did it cost (quoted GBP35+VAT just to collect and diagnose).Ĭlearly I can get a new replacement battery for about ~GBP33 how easy is a self repair? Anyone got any tips/guidance? Is the clicking sound likely to mean that more than just a battery is needed? Other than this the docking station is fully serviceable. Loaded Dual Battery widget which confirmed that main battery charges normally, but the docking station battery is holding no charge and will not charge (also weird clicking sound coming from docking station when charging cable attached). Lately I noticed that battery life was not what it was (just assumed normal Li-on battery degradation) however on closer inspection noticed the docking station was starting to bulge in the middle (when closed the tablet screen rests on the keys rather than the side rubber mountings.
